We hope not. Benefits, particularly insurance benefits, can cost as much as 5 to 25% more every year. The only way for any employer to keep up is to hold down other expenses.
Dovetail routinely retains 65 to 70% of EAP clients in an 8 session EAP model without referral into insurance. The majority of our referrals into insurance benefits are for services not typically provided by EAPs, like inpatient treatment and medication evaluations. The vast majority of EAP clients don't require more than 8 sessions. Our client organizations know that our impact on their bottom line is significant because we have high utlization, we keep our clients and serve them well, we can't boost our profit by providing less service, and we will never benefit financially from any referral into insurance reimbursed services,
The cheapest EAP is not always the least expensive. An effective EAP can help an employer hold down expenses by providing a quality service. How do you know if you're getting quality?
High Utilization. Dovetail's EAP utilization for a random selection of ten organizations with an 8 session model is in the chart below. Our statistics speak for themselves. Dovetail utilization is for face-to-face services, not telephone inquiries and web site visits. That's a cheap way to boost numbers without providing a service that has a maximum impact on an employer's bottom line.
High Retention. In the chart you will also notice that Dovetail counselors retained a respectable percentage of all clients without referral into employer funded insurance benefits.
Staff Model. Dovetail counselors are all licensed experts and over 90% of our clients are seen by Dovetail employees, not affiliates. Our staff are there to serve the client. Affiliate counselors are a variable expense, so the more affiliates an EAP uses, the more tightly they have to control the number of sessions provided.
No Conflict of Interest. Dovetail is an independent family-owned corporation that provides no insurance reimbursed services whatsoever. We have no financial affiliation with any organization that does. We could boost our bottom line by billing employer insurance for continuing services, but that's not how we do it. Our goal is to help employers contain benefits costs, not dip into them.

BEWARE THE 30 GALLON TANK OF GAS. We don't suppose you are, but just for fun, let's assume you were interested in purchasing a tank of gas for every employee every month. To make sure you could predict the cost of the benefit, you asked different vendors to bid a flat fee. If one vendor offered an 18 gallon fill up and another offered a 30 gallon fill up for a comparable price, you'd think the 30 gallon vendor was giving you a better deal until you realized that nearly all of your employees have 18 gallon tanks. The 30 gallon vendor is trying to sell you nothing but a promise they know they'll rarely if ever fulfill.
To find out more about Dovetail's 18 gallon tank of gas, send an email to inquiries@askdove.com or call 888-275-3683 (888-ASK-DOVE).
